CFM's Response to COVID-19

Thank you so much for your patience and flexibility as our food system faces new challenges.  Many of our farmers and vendors rely on the Market as the primary source of their income.  It is important that we support our vendors so that our growers and producers can stay in business, while we remain vigilant and committed to the health and safety of our Community.
What’s happening?
  • Beginning Saturday, November 7, Vendors will be moving indoors due to cold weather. Customers will be counted to ensure the Market does not become over-crowded, and encouraged to social distance by floor markers. All customers are required to wear a face mask/covering unless otherwise exempted. If you're interested in placing a curbside order, please contact your desired vendor directly.
  • Beginning Saturday, July 11, Community Farmers Market requires that all customers wear a face mask upon entering the Market (inside or outside), or while waiting in line to enter the Market. This does not include children age 5 or younger, or any person with disability, or a physical or mental impairment, that prevents them from safely wearing a face covering.  For additional exemptions, please refer to Governor Beshear's Executive Order.
  • Beginning Saturday, July 4, Saturday market vendors will be located outside, in the Community Farmers Market parking lot, and inside the Market building.  All parking will be in the WKU South Campus parking lot, behind our Market building.
  • All customers must enter the Market via the sidewalk between the Market & the WKU South Campus parking lot.
  • In order to allow proper distancing, Community Farmers Market may limit the number of shoppers allowed to enter the Market at a time.
  • Tuesday markets will be located inside of our Market building.
  • As a Kentucky Certified Farmers Market, we are classified as an essential food business and will remain open.  If the situation changes, we will post updates on our website and social media.

What is changing at the market to make it safer?
Community Farmers Market will take the following measures, in order to protect against the spread of COVID-19 at the Market:
  • The Saturday markets will be moved outdoors.  (Some vendors will be located inside.)
  • Space between vendor booths has been increased.
  • Food sampling has been suspended.
  • The food court area/seating is temporarily closed.
  • Social distancing for customers and vendors will be monitored and encouraged.
  • Ready-to-eat food will be packaged to-go, to be enjoyed at home.
  • CFM frequently cleans and sanitizes all high-touch areas, surfaces, machines, and tokens.
  • Vendors will wear gloves/change gloves/wash hands frequently.
  • Vendors who feel ill will not attend the Market.
  • Vendors will wear face masks/coverings when working with a customer, or within 6' of another person.  Vendors may take a short break from their masks if needed, when not working with a customer, and when not within 6' of another person.

What do I need to do as a customer?
  • Stay home if you are sick or in a high risk group.
  • Wear a face mask or face covering while at the Market.
  • Keep distance (6 feet) from others whenever possible.
  • Use dots painted on the ground 6 ft.+ apart to maintain adequate social distance while waiting in line.
  • Make a shopping list, bring reusable bags and send one low-risk, healthy family member to shop.
  • Customers may not touch products; please allow vendors to help you with your purchase.
  • Wash hands frequently at the outdoor hand washing stations or in the bathroom or kitchen inside CFM.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes into a sleeve or tissue.
  • Shop intentionally and quickly.  Please, no lingering at the Market at this time.
  • Customers who place pre-orders directly with vendors, or who have a CSA, are eligible for CFM Curbside Pick-up.

Why is the market staying open?
  • Farmers markets are considered life-sustaining retail businesses, like grocery stores, according to Governor Andy Beshear's Executive Order.
  • Farmers’ markets also provide important food access, according to Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr. Ryan Quarles' guidance for farmers' markets.
  • Read the latest Executive Order from Governor Andy Beshear.
